Pre-employment Testing

Pre-employment testing is essential to employers they are screening devices used to measure the aptitude of potential candidates to select the best possible talent, these devices measure a number of skill levels from interpersonal to leadership ability. Pre-employment testing is conducted for numerous reasons, one being to secure the employer from possible negative occurrences (Cohen, n.d.). Pre-employment testing encompasses a number of psychological, physical and background aspects such as, cognitive thinking, personality, medical exams, credit check; such measurements are useful in determining the best possible candidate. Screening devices can violate federal anti-discrimination laws when an employer specifically purpose to discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, religion, disability, or age. Pre-employment test also include physical ability, and sample job task which includes job simulation, work samples, etc. such task evaluate the applicant performance and aptitude, performance appraisals also evaluate individual work effectiveness. Globalization has made competition among companies aggressive to the effect of employers sifting through numerous resumes and interviewing countless applicants (Cohen, n.d.). The recruitment and selection process are costly and employers commit an abundant amount of time searching for adept applicant to fill vacancies. (MacDonald, n.d.).

The advantages of pre-employment testing entail aiding the employer to determine the candidate skill level to perform completely the required task whereas, disadvantages stem from cost of interviewing and erroneous testing (Cohen, n.d.).
