The Inventory Management System

Inventory systems are the catalysts that have propelled many businesses beyond their basic capability. Small businesses like the clothing company, can benefit from using an inventory management system. The implementation of an inventory management system will help the business to streamline the inventory process. It has been determined that the type of inventory management system that will be implemented is called a Point of Sale system. This system will need several pieces of equipment in order to function.

Business Process

In order to begin creating the inventory management system a business process must be established to ensure optimal functionality within the store. The business process is a set of transactions, events, and results that are described and documented. With these documentations, a business model can be created. The business model is a description of the information that must be provided by the system being put in place. In this case, the information that is to be provided by this inventory system will be the quantity of stock that is on hand at the store.

Equipment

There are several items that will be needed for the creation of this system. These are a central processing unit (CPU), a barcode scanner, a payment processing device, barcode printers, and finally a point of sale software application as well as inventory management software. The CPU will be used to keep track and update current inventory numbers as transactions are made. The CPU will also provide the function of a cash register. Along with the register, a barcode scanner will be installed to provide a simple input function. Upon the scanning of the UPC on each item to be sold, all information on the product will be displayed.
