1. What is the concept of Star Trek? (What is it about?)

Star Trek is basically the most popular and influential science fiction series ever seen in the world history. The series centers on the 23rd century adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise that represents the United Federation of Planets on a five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life forms and new civilizations, and to boldly go where no man has gone beforeā€.

Throughout the series, it can be seen that Star Trek is mainly about peace and unity. This is proven by the collaboration of the human and alien races that formed the United Federation of Planets in hope to achieve universal peace. The United Federation of Planets, the governing body in Star Trek with the Enterprise belonging to its military service Starfleet somehow represented a unified Earth government in this particular series. The purpose of this federation are to maintain interplanetary peace and security besides developing friendly relations among planets based on respect of the equal rights and self-determination of intelligent life forms, and to other appropriate measure to strengthen peace. In this series, the crew of U.S.S enterprise, commanded by Captain James T. Kirk worked together side by side throughout their space exploration mission depicting a sense of unity that existed among them.

Star Trek also played the racism issue well in which it emphasis on the equality of all people regardless of race. As a proof, the crew of the U.S.S Enterprise was racially mixed. The series has two regular characters that represent American minorities rapidly gaining status in American society, Lt. Sulu and Lt. Uhura. Mr. Sulu, an Oriental is the helmsman of the U.S.S Enterprise while Lt. Uhura, a Black woman is the communications officer.
