a. The boomerang leg involves laying on your back with both knees bent and your feet flat into the floor. You bend one knee bringing it into your chest while just using your abs. You then extend that leg out in front of you by digging your heel into the floor with the foot flexed and lifting the leg to 90 degrees at the hip. It then returns to the floor by sliding the heel into the floor and bending the leg into the chest before placing it flat on the floor again. The boomerang leg works both the abs as well as your hip flexors. It helps warm up the hip for doing illusions, kicks and tassel leg throws. It also helps with almost any standing or across the floor exercises by practicing utilizing the core.

b. Squares are another way of stretching. They involve sitting with one leg bent while the foot is flexed in front of you. The other leg is bent with the foot behind you. The space between your legs should make a square. While the foot in front of you is flexed, both hips should be placed flat on the floor but when the foot is pointed only one hip should be on the floor. There are a few different variations of how to stretch in the squares. Squares work your hip flexors, quads, ankles, and your abs or core. They can help doing tendue’s and releve by working the ankle as well as illusions, kicks and tassel leg throws by working the hip flexors.

c. Spine Undulations and Rebounds can be done by laying flat on your back and lifting the pelvis up by elongating the spine and using your abs. This exercise can be extended to lifting the pelvis and pushing the hips to either side. They are used to work your back and more specifically your spine as well as your abs. Body swings and swing jumps involve the use of the spine and your core to bend and lift again.
