Summary of All Marketers Are All Liars

“All Marketers Are Liars” is a book about the stories that people tell themselves to believe in it. Seth Godin, an author of this book focuses on the importance of how marketers spread a good story to persuade consumers. This book is not about marketers being liars rather it’s about how consumers lie to themselves everyday about their activities.

Consumers tell themselves stories because they are superstitious in activities they perform. The stories they tell themselves are lies that make it far easier life to live in today’s complicated world. They lie to justify their actions whether commitment might be wrong. People have always communicated important ideas through stories, and people fall into believing those stories. We believe what we want to believe, and once we believe something, it becomes a truth or even reality. For instance, if we think that video games are getting more expensive is better despite illogical reasons then we accept that it’s better. Once we move beyond the simple satisfaction of needs, we move into complex satisfaction of desires because desires are hard to measure yet difficult to understand.

This book talks about two sides of universal truth, one that has built every successful brand, organization, and candidate yet another one that we rarely have the words to describe. All marketers are storytellers. Only the losers are left behind so called “liars.” Marketers are just the providers of the stories that consumers choose to believe. A good story is where genuine customer satisfaction comes from; it’s the source of a company’s growth and profit. Stories are necessary to help consumers deal with information they face every day.
