Eldest written by Christopher Paolini is a book about change and transformation. All of the characters in the book go through many twists and turns not just physically but mentally and spiritually as they are challenged to do what most people could not. The author lets his characters make tough decisions that may not always be right. I recommend this book because it tells a story of right and wrong and that when you make wrong or bad choices in life they could not only affect you but those around you. This book gives us a positive outlook about how a person does the right things even though he/she could get hurt.

Main Characters

• Arya; she is the elf that Eragon saved in the first novel. She travels to the Elf city with Eragon where he finds out that Arya is one of the Queens daughters.

• Murtagh; he lived under Galbatorix rule and could have become a general in time but he escapes and finds Eragon. He does not want to join Varden because Brom killed his father. He is captured at the beginning of the story but later he betrays Eragon and the story tells us he is Eragons brother.

• Orik; Dwarf nephew to King Hrothgar and guide to Eragon. He provides armor to Eragon and Saphira that saves their lives.

• Ajihad; Leader of the Varden, dies in the early part of the book.

• Roran; Eragon’s cousin who is going to marry Katrina.
