An issue is defined as a point of discussion, debate or dispute. It can be easily identified and at times resolved, has a resolution. A problem is a question to be answered. It requires thought and may or may not be able to be resolved. The issues, if addressed, can be resolved before a problem develops. The Kudler Fine Foods Company is dealing with operational, human resource and financial management issues that could become detrimental to the growth potential of the company.

Kudler Fine Foods is a premiere gourmet grocery store. It provides quality goods and services to its customers. The companies’ mission statement is “committed to providing our customers with the finest selection of the very best foods and wines so that your culinary visions can come true” (Kudler Fine Foods, 2003). Owner, Kathy Kudler, is very passionate about her vision, dedication and commitment to her business. She works seven days a week, visits each of her stores and works hands on with her customers.

The company has the potential to be successful but has issues that are developing into problems if not recognized and addressed by the owner. One of the biggest issues is that Kathy had no experience owning her own company. Kathy should have created a business plan prior to opening her business. It is essential to the success of a new business entrepreneur. Researching how to put together a restaurant business plan would have allowed her to realize parts of her business that are essential. Such things as market analysis, business operations, financial management, management team and ownership would have been included.

Breaking down the parts of the business and how those parts will function would have afforded her the opportunity to establish the segregation of duties from the beginning.
