Whenever Apple is mentioned, Steve Jobs automatically comes to mind. After all it was his company-he cofounded it. He was eventually banished from and returned to save the company and ultimately took it on the “magic carpet ride” that took it to the top of the market in terms of revenue and sales projections. Much of the success goes to Jobs, who put his beloved creation on the path to glory, and whose fingerprints are all over its current and future plans (Swartz, 2012). However, now that Jobs has passed on, can Apple continue on their glory ride? This seems to be what everyone is wondering. Did Jobs make the company or did the company make Jobs. It is probably a combination of the two. I personally believe that Jobs instilled such value and work ethics into his staff that his vision and ideas will be carried on.
According to recent news reports, “Apple had a better 12 months following the death of Steve Jobs than many firms have in 12 years”. The name of Apple has been synonymous with quality. While Jobs drove his staff beyond belief, his vision and drive made Apple what it is today. The company enjoys a competitive edge because its products maintain a sterling reputation with both consumers and businesses. Jobs had the foresight to formulate a long-term strategic road map for Apple. It has been further speculated that Apple's incredible run of success has created heightened expectations that no company can live up to. Everything that they do is highly scrutinized and analyzed (Swartz, 2012). When Jobs left the first time and later returned, the company was in financial turmoil and Jobs had to take great risks to try to bring the company out of the hole. He did just that and today, it is a highly profitable business. His successful ideas had more to do with marketing and protecting the name and keeping others away...
