A young male patient suffers from a very deep wound in his thigh. He was in a motorcycle accident in which he went over a cliff and into a stagnant creek. The following day, he develops a very high fever, and is admitted for IV antibiotics to treat the infection. The doctors worry that the infection may affect his bone.

I have been assigned the skeletal system for scenario VII, the skeletal system is interrelated to this scenario because of the fact that the infection that the young man suffers from the deep thigh wound can cross over and also cause infection in the bone. An example of this is osteomyelitis, which is an infection of the bone and bone marrow that is caused from a trauma or injury becoming infected by a bacteria by way of the bloodstream (McPhee & Papadakis, 2009). If the infection invades the bone than the patient may suffer from severe pain and he will likely have to take the IV antibiotics for a longer period of time. This may also lead to the physician recommending surgery to remove any necrotic bone tissue (Mosby's Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing & Health Professionals, 2009). The skeletal is related to the scenario, by means that the skeletal system is the structure that makes the body able to stand and move freely. The accident although it does not state in the scenario, with an accident of that sort could have caused great trauma to the bone structure. The scenario states that the following day the young man developed a high fever and was admitted to receive IV antibiotics; the presence of the fever could mean that staph has already invaded the deep wound and causing damage to the tissues. Common symptoms of a staph infection are high fever, localized pain, swelling of the wound, or surrounding tissue; accompanied by redness of the area, there is also a greater chance of very slow...
