Issue: There is controversy on whether personality, manners, or moral is something that is acquired naturally, or something that is nurtured. When looking at a group of people from the North, they are stereotypically ruder than those from the South. Hence the term, “Southern Hospitality.” You tend to adapt to the attitudes of the people around you. Which is where the argument stands, is personality natural, or nurtured?

Nature: Say there is a child outside and they see trash on the ground, and their first instinct is to go pick it up. Is that a behavior that they have learned over the years, or was it something taught to them since birth? For example, more than often, an animal born and raised in the wild has no sense of domestication. Their only instinct is to survive, opposed to an animal raised in the city or with a family. That animal wants to play, to cuddle with their owner, and so on. Though there will occasionally be an animal still stuck in their natural ways. Even if they have been raised around people, there still lies a chance of them growing up to follow their natural instincts. The animal in the wild has had no previous training, so naturally, it is a savage. There are certain behaviors and instincts that we have naturally. Humans eat, drink, sleep, breathe, and blink without a second thought. Those are not things that necessarily have to be taught. But in order to have some personality and not be a savage such as an animal, we must be taught right from wrong.

Nurture: Most psychopaths are the way they are because they were not nurtured as a child. It has been proven that most, though not all, psychopaths were either neglected or abused as a child. So nurturing is something necessary and most definitely has an impact on attitude, or personality. You can usually tell how a person was raised and how the household is that they were raised in, by the way that they act on a regular basis.
