INTRODUCTION

At ARMS, one of our biggest, and most important areas, which need improvement, is lack of safety. Overall, when asked, faculty, students, and family members say that they do not feel very safe while on campus. They indicate that the campus is too open to people who might just wander through during the day, and that these people may have criminal, or unsavory, plans for the campus or the people it holds. They feel that there is an overall lack of concern, by the administration, for safety, in general. Apparently, some of the students seem to be seeking ways to make money illegally, and thus, have to have their movement significantly restricted while they are on campus. In an attempt to correct these feelings, a safety cadre has been established to meet and find some potential solutions to this issue. They will be asked to create, distribute, and collect some surveys to see if the concerns can be pinpointed and addressed by the administration. This cadre will also walk the campus for visual confirmation of issues, they will research and locate funding to make needed improvements, and they will evaluate all available data to acquire the most thorough resolutions to the concerns. Since the need for physical and emotional safety is a basic one for people, especially children, “Children who don't feel safe can be anxious and unhappy.  This can affect their health and learning, ("The 10 things," 2013)” and it is considered a basic need, in general, lack of safety must be addressed, corrected, and ensured for all members of the ARMS family.

CONCLUSION

Lack of safety, it turns out, was not only a perception, but a reality. Along with the previously suggested ways of measuring this need, the cadre also researched the geographic areas crime rates, area crimes and patrol statistics. Apparently, the area that ARMS is located in is considered a very...
