Chapter I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
Education is the basic foundation of society upon which a country’s development and progress rest. Quality education as the major determinant of the people’s level of success in their search for jobs serve as the main avenue of a country’s entry to the global economy.
Moving towards this direction and in keeping with the economic development momentum calls for the educational system to develop individuals into self actualized persons who can become part of the quality human resource base needed to become attuned with globalization needs and demands.
In this context it is quite necessary for schools to have and maintain high standards of instructional procedures that can be highly contributory to the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning. This is of prime importance because in the foundation of learning there is a building block that leads to the ability of students to think and communicate clearly and if students are to solve tomorrow’s problems they must be able to think critically and communicate effectively with people who have other perspectives. In order to achieve these goals in a rapidly changing world, schools must continually improve the way in which they educate.
Considering these varied technological challenges, schools particularly Higher Educational Institutions has been compelled to “jump into the technology bandwagon” in order to be ready for change and participate in that change to keep abreast...
