“Recount” is a film about the 2000 United States Presidential election, it was written by Danny Strong and directed by Jay Roach. The movie describes the way that the 2000 election was very controversial between the Governor of Texas George W. Bush and the Vice President Al-Gore. The main problem was that there were several irregularities principally in the State of Florida. The final result in Florida was very slim, because Bush only leaded the election to 300 votes which required under state law a mandatory recount. Therefore Gore who had conceded privately with Bush, withdrew his concession. There were many irregularities among this election that demonstrate why the political system in the United States has to change.

The State of Florida was a key State during the 2000 elections. Two political personalities were a key factor to unbalance these elections; Jeb Bush, the brother of George and the Secretary of State in Florida Katherine Harris. Katherine was a key actor during the investigations of this election, principally because of her Republican background that permitted her to order cessations after several recounts which permitted bush to win the popular vote. It was later proved that she stalled the recounts, because the U.S. Supreme Court during the case Bush v. Gore established that the Florida Supreme Court's method for recounting ballots was a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. This kind of behavior is a reflection how the elections in the United States can change with political leverage.

One of the main anomalies during this election was that 20,000 people (principally African-Americans) were no allowed to vote because they were categorized as convicted felons. Another irregularity was that the ballots were no well done and therefore the machine couldn´t count the holes were people had voted because it couldn´t detect those votes.
