The war that would decide on who would stay in the New World was the French and Indian War. The war was fought between the French and the British from 1754 until 1763. What had caused the war to start was when the two countries got into a dispute over the Ohio River Territory which also involved the local Indians who lived there. Also, british colonists needed to start settling west, which was Indian territory, due to the fact of their soil losing it's nutrients from the excessive tobacco farming. Tobacco was the cash crop for the English colonies. The French and Indian War altered economic, political, and idealogical relations between Britain and America.

The British were in deep economic trouble after the war. The affects of the war led to the brutal aftermath for the British. Therefore, the British were in serious need of money which led to a high taxation on common resources for the American colonists. These high taxation were called acts. For the colonists, this was outrageous and not fair. One act that was imposed on the colonists was The Molasses Act of 1733 which caused a six pence tax on every gallon of molasses. Another of the acts was the Stamp Act of 1764 which outraged many colonists, including Benjamin Franklin.(Document G) The Stamp Act required that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamped paper produced in London, carrying an embossed revenue stamp. Furthermore, the Tea Act of 1773, outraged the colonists the most causing them to do something about it. One night colonists dressed up as Mohawk warriors and boarded the tea ships and night and dumped all the tea into the harbor. All these reasons altered the economical relation between Britain and the American colonies.

Although there was economic tension between Britain and the American colonies, there was also political problems. After all this taxation, the American colonists just wanted to separate from their mother country, England. Colonists were not...
