Managing Up Reflection Paper: “Managing Your Boss” Leadership & Organizational Behavior
When looking through the Guide of Managing Up and Across, I looked for a topic that stood out given my past experiences and in doing so I came across Managing Your Boss. It is my personal opinion that managing a boss is vital to one’s personal development and career. In the article Managing Your Boss written by Linda A. Hill and Kent Lineback, I found that the key points they touched on were the relationship with your boss; communication and knowing what type of boss your boss is. Out of the three key points they touched the one I feel that you first have to establish the type of boss your boss is. Knowing the type of boss your boss is important for knowing how to interact or approach with him or her. As the authors put it, is your boss a coach, developer, evaluator or a judge. Once you have established the type of boss your boss is, you can then approach your boss in the manner which suits your boss best. It is always easy to know what our boss’s weaknesses are but it is also important to acknowledge their strengths too. We must not exploit those...
