PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
INTRODUCTION
This report will focus upon the principles of Management and Leadership. It will be divided into four sections; the first will explain the links between Management and Leadership, the second will explain Skills and Styles, the third will explain Organisational Context and the fourth will explain Development of skills.
During my research I will use different theorists to understand management and leadership.
My report will start by introducing the theorists, Kurt Lewin, Peter Ducker and John Kotter. I will use their concepts to understand the relationship link that exists between management and leadership. I will use them to help me understand my own management and leadership style and how it can contribute to objectives and impact those whom I work with.
The report will then consider the skills and styles of management and leadership. This section will introduce two leaders Mahatma Gandhi and Tony Blair to help me review what skills and styles they employed in their success. I will develop the report to identify two roles and consider the personal and professional skills which work towards achieving the given goal. I will explore theorists, John French and Bertram Raven, Charles Handy and Fred E. Fiedler to further my research.
The research on skills and styles will progress to illustrate where these are required by an organisation to undertake the management and leadership role.
The report will finish by bringing all above sections together by looking at the leader/management requirements of a specific job role, Lead Internal Verifier and how I would meet these requirements in the job role.
