Detecting Media Bias

The article that I choose to write my paper on was entitled “Michigan Political Points: Proposal to criminalize election lies; petition for a part-time Legislature” taken from the Mlive.com website. The article takes a look over the past week of Michigan Political Points. The writer collects the week's most interesting news, views and YouTubes from the state Capitol and shares them with the readers.

Political parties and some news services use fraud and deception all of the time. It is easy to omit the factor that created a political crisis and blame an opposing party for fictitiously creating the crisis. Case it point, the government shutdown. The GOP house passed a House resolution changing who can submit a bill. Previously and through out history, a Representative of either party could make a submission. But HR 368 changed the rule to allow ONLY the majority party leadership to submit a bill. The logic behind this change was to prevent the Democrats from submitting a spending bill to increase the debt ceiling which some Republicans might agree with and pass the debt ceiling bill. The rule change prevented that from happening and allowed the GOP to control or reject any bill that would avoid a government shutdown, thus insuring that a shutdown would occur. The GOP demanded changes to the ACA which were illegal since it was already a law and blamed the Democrats for not negotiating with them to that end, thus blaming the Democrats for the resulting shutdown.

The problem is that we have about three corporations who own 98% of the news services in this country and they do none of the kind of reporting that would expose the truth behind events that are occurring in our government, as they are afraid they might isolate a segment of their listeners and lose market share.
