This paper will provide a business report on the Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd using available resources from the internet, academic books and the company website. A detailed SWOT analysis of the company; it will also look at the strategic view on the company as a whole. The aim of this paper is to provide a descriptive business overview on the Virgin Group. In the lecture Introduction to Value Chain Management (Babula, 2011), shows that the two major benefits of adding value is to increase in quality, which will add a competitive edge towards the company and also to reduce the cost within the business organisation. Adding value depends on meeting a consumer value attributes. The customer value for goods and services are mainly recognised with most retail stores and the customer service within them.

Company Background

The Virgin group is an expanded collection, holding more than 200 private companies. A segment of these companies, the biggest is Virgin Atlantic Airways, which seems to be the second largest airline in the United Kingdom. Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd was founded in 1984 by a recognised British tycoon Richard Branson (Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd, 2006). The Virgin group also entails Virgin Holidays, which is a holiday tour operator; Virgin Rail. This is stated by the (Independent, 2011) to be the second biggest train operator in the United Kingdom. (Grant, 2005) shows that the Virgin Retail group, handles a large number of Virgin Mega stores, which involves a retail idea containing videos, music CDs and computer games; Virgin Direct, offers financial services. These companies happened to create a combination of diverse groups which were brought by the Richard Branson and the Virgin Brand.
