Gender Communication Difference in Business

Abstract

Using the Business communications research of S. M. Janssen, A. L. M. Lagro-Janssen and R. Koonce as well as that of W. V. Saal, along with A. M. van Dulmen and J. M. Bensing’s experiment, I observed and analyzed the effect of gender communication difference in workplace. Although gender differences are gradually decreasing in the modern society according to the study of L. Miller, P. Lietz and D. Kotte, it is true that the effect of gender differences cannot be underestimated and vanished completely. Based on results of the A. M. van Dulmen and J. M. Bensing’s experiment, I presupposed that various working environments can be created by different types of gender communication. This implies it is important that managers in company need to place each gender employees with the suitable role for them to increase the company’s work efficiency.

Business environments created by gender differences in communication styles

People live in the world of communication and indeed they do spend most of their time communicating with others. Communication is such a strong tool that we should know different gender communication styles in order to succeed in business environments. Today, with so many women now in senior positions and running successful companies, the need to understand gender differences in business communication has become essential for both men and women. Although the society gradually equlizes the male and female role these days, it is an undeniable truth that gender differences in communication styles create various types of business environments. As a lot of small changes can add up to make a big difference, different communication styles can make outstanding changes in our business fields.
