* The role of information system in the global market today is it helps an organization to provide past , present and projected information related to internal operations and external intelligence. It supports the planning, control and operation functions of an organization by furnishing uniform information in the proper time frame to assist the decision makers.

2. Why information system important in running and managing today’s businesses?

* Information systems are the foundation for conducting business today. In many industries, survival and even existence without extensive use of IT is inconceivable, and IT plays a critical role in increasing productivity. Although information technology has become more of a commodity, when coupled with complementary changes in organization and management, it can provide the foundation for new products, services, and ways of conducting business that provide firms with a strategic advantage. It can lead today’s business in operational excellence in new products, services, business models, customer, supplier intimacy, competitive advantage, survival and improve their decision making.

3. Can you explain what complementary assets are? Why are these essential for ensuring that information systems provide genuine value for an organization?

* Complementary assets are those assets required to derive value from a primary investment. Firms must rely on supportive values, structures, and behaviour patterns to obtain a greater value from their IT investments. Value must be added through complementary assets such as new business processes, management behaviour, organizational culture, and training.
