Sam Walton founder of Wal Mart open his first store in Rogers, Arkansas on July 2,1962( Clark, Michael). Who would have thought that this one store would eventually revoluntionaze the retail industry. Wal –Mart has close to 5,000 stores nationwide. Wal –Mart stores offer a variety of products from food to car repairs al –Mart has consistently continued to meet, exceeded their goals, and remained the leader in the industry. When Wal-Mart first was founded there were three other new retailers also competing for consumer loyalty and market share Target, Kmart and Wool Worth .Wal-Mart continues to be a giant in the industry it brings in over a billion dollars a year. Along Wal -Marts path to success Wal –Mart did have experience growing curves. Sam Walton implemented effective organizational and marketing strategies that have led and continue to allow the organization to be a monopoly in the industry.Sam Walton needs to stay ahead of his competition. Sam Walton was always looking for new ideas not only to grow the revenue but also to retain loyal staff and customers.

When Sam Walton learned of a new self – service stores located in Minnesota, He saw this as an opportunity to learn and gain insight from other leaders in the industry. Walton traveled by bus to educated himself on the business of self – service stores( Clark, Michael)One of Sam Walton's best strategies in making the company grow was making the customers and associates feel good about coming to and working at Wal-Mart. That way, he believed, the customers would be more inclined to come back and the associates would enjoy working (Clark, Michael). He created a relaxed atmosphere whenever possible. For instance, every Saturday morning there is a meeting at the headquarters in Bentonville. Every worker at the office is strongly encouraged to attend.
