Jennifer Garrett Ss-310 Kaplan UniversityAssignment 2Cold War The Vietnam War “Cold War” is controversial on event in American history still to this day. It was a war fought between the communist Viet Cong from North Vietnam, and the democratic South Vietnamese, the United States did its best to do what it could to protect from any expanding communist threats. Many Americans felt that our interference was meddling with a civil war.(Zastro) There were other reasons that Americans opposed this war, including the use of the draft and all who was involved, the poor, young and African American populations were affected the most. Many other people opposed the wartime tactics employed by the US military, the use of chemicals, such as napalm and Agent Orange, which had disastrous effects on innocent civilians. These military and political controversies fell on the eve of an escalating civil rights movement throughout America. (Romo) During the 1960’s, there was not much the American citizens or the American government did except talk, walk and breathe everything that involved the cold war. People who grew up during the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s would have talked about the war like it was an everyday thing and there wasn’t a day that past it didn’t come up. However, over the years the talk faded out and now some are not even aware it happened or even what the war was about. I surveyed a few people on Face book to see what in fact they knew or remember from or about the Cold War, those that responded either had some answers that were funny, serious and some couldn’t answer one thing. Age played a part in my survey and the ones fewer than 28 that did answer had no clue or said maybe I heard of it on TV. They question I asked on Face book were; What words or phrases come to mind when you think of the term Cold War? Did you ever study the Cold War in school?
