  The class accompanied by Dr. Antonio Rayos, the class professor, had a visit in the U.P. College of Veterinary Medicine in Tabon last December 3, 2013. The tour was headed by Dr. Lai Suba. The students were toured in the facilities and equipments in the veterinary school and animal health center.

​                        Important facilities present  at the animal health center includes the diagnostic laboratory, clinical pathology, serology, parasitology, microbiology laboratory, instrument room, diagnostic imaging room,  and small and large animal surgery room.  Basic laboratory tests in disease diagnosis are being conducted in the Diagnostic Laboratory, in here, basic samples such as feces/stool, blood and saliva are obtained for disease diagnosis. While in Microbiology laboratory  body fluids, feces and urine are tested and necropsy room  is mainly for small ruminants and prevention of disease. ​​Instruments room  is where laboratory equipments and surgical tools are being kept. And it is in the medical records room where health records of individual animals are kept. The x-ray and ultrasound tests are being performed in the diagnostic imaging room. Preparation room for surgery, vaccination and deworming of patient animals are being done in the Preparation room. There are separate surgery rooms for small and large animals  which are used for real surgery/operation and practicals for veterinary medicine students. The health center, moreover, has facilities for isolation and confinement, and scrub room.

        It was a short visit but visiting the place gave me a complete actual picture of an animal hospital. Some of the facilities and equipments there are simple and improvised which shows that people working there are resilient and driven with passion. And personally, I saw and realized that being and staying in this industry means a lot of hard work and patience and yes service to others. Just what I wanted. It was a...
