Research paper on relaxation, learning and emotions

As the economy continues to struggle with low inflation and high unemployment rates we are living in stressful times. As we encounter these stressful times our emotions and rush of stress hormones prepares us to flight or flee. “Unfortunately, people tend to activate the fight-or-flight response multiple times during a typical day, usually because of situations that are annoying and stressful, but not life threatening” (MacDonald). If this stressful life style has got you down, experts will tell you that relaxation will help bring you back up. Relaxation is an uplifting technique that allows your mind and body to relax or rest.

When your mind it not relaxed but in a state of stress it can affect the way you learn and manage your daily activities. Stress is a part of everyone and affects our everyday lives. There is no way to avoid stress but how we cope and respond to pressure is the key factor. Relaxation is more than a state of mind. It is something affects the way our body’s function and the way we think. Not being able to relax has been proven to actually cause stress. People who are uptight or just functioning in an extremely stressful environment are at a greater risk of being stressed. Stress can take a major toll on our bodies. Over time it can play a major role in that it can create lifelong health problems, reduce productivity and even affect our learning process and promote memory reduction.

Stress can cause many health problems even when you don’t realize it. “Stress symptoms can affect your body, your thoughts, and feelings, and your behavior. Stress that is left unchecked can contribute to health problems such as high-blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes” (Mayo Clinic). It can also contribute to depression, headaches, and even affect your mood and personality. All of these health factors can affect the way we progress though the learning cycle.
