West Care Performance Appraisal

Introduction

I have worked for, what is now West Care Medical Center, for over six years now. I have had more than enough performance appraisals and have seen the change in the type of performance appraisals managers have used for employees. What was once a one sheet- ten question performance appraisal has now turned into a ten page -100 question packet. We will go over the current performance appraisal used today in Patient Access, which is very detailed and lengthy.

West Care Medical Center uses a job description and performance appraisal yearly for one’s performance evaluation. This performance appraisal has many Patient Access qualifications on it such as; an employee’s job summary, qualifications with the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities; physical demands for the employee’s position, corporate competencies, accountability, interpersonal skills, quality and regulatory compliance. The new yearly goals as well as the previous year’s goals are also stated on the performance appraisal.

Advantages and Disadvantages

The job description performance appraisal is a good tool to use towards one’s performance appraisal because the appraisal explains exactly what the employee’s job description is and what is to be expected from the employee. There are multiple choice ratings for each question’s towards that appraisal: exceeds, achieves, needs improvement and does not meet. When an employee chooses “exceeds”, the employee must give an example of a time when or of why he or she exceeded at their position. The rest of the boxes may be checked as to whether they achieve, needs improvement or does not meet expectations.

An employee first evaluates themselves and is then compared to the management’s answers on a performance appraisal. At this time, the manager will go over all the answers from both evaluations and go through each answer as to why he or she answered in that...
