Miami School District Negotiation

The Miami School district must redraw the school boundaries because of the unexpected increases in student enrollment. To accomplish this for the upcoming year, the school board has hired experts to create a plan where many students will not be able to stay at the present school. When the students parents heard this, the parents start to voice his or her opinions to the school board about the proposed plan for the following reasons: quality of education, increased travel time, crossing economic and cultural boundaries, affect on property values, and the social affects on the students. A plan will be developed in this paper that will address the stakeholders' concerns. Also addressed is answering the question of who are the stakeholders, what negotiation strategy is used to support the school board's need to redraw the boundaries while addressing the concerns of the stakeholders, and how the ethics and culture affect the decision.

Stakeholders

In a public school system, the funds come from the tax payers in the area. This means that the stakeholders are the parents of the children using the school services, also school officials, teachers, staff, and the school district. The parents concerns such as the quality of education, increased travel time, crossing economic and cultural boundaries, affect on property values, and the social affects on the students must be considered given the fact that the parents are the stakeholders. The parents are looking for other options besides boundary changes. For a successful negotiation to take place between the school district and the stakeholders, the stakeholders will need to devise a plan to appease the school district without moving the school boundaries. The main two stakeholders involved in the negotiation of the school boundaries is the school district and the parents.
