COMPANY INFORMATION:

James Cash Penney founder of J.C. Penney in the year of 1902 it has become one of the largest and major retailers operating about 1,104 departments store in 49 states around the country including Puerto Rico recently opened as of February 2, 2013. J. C. Penney has had a bad 2013 stock dropped 57% and ranks the lowest of its fellow rivals Macy’s and Nordstrom. J. C. Penney sells a variety of merchandise to consumers such as family apparel, footwear, fine jewelry, beauty products, and styling salon as well as appliance. In addition, the organization has started to offer more global products to consumers.

SWOT ANALYSIS:

I completed a SWOT Analysis on J. C. Penney the threats are lack of training for employees which continues to impact how they serve customers.

Strengths:

* Retail and merchandise

* Present in many locations its’ a National Retailer

* It offers kids free haircuts

Weaknesses:

* Ineffective promotions

* Revisit customers’ requirements

* The economy is slow-moving, higher prices for labor and distribution

* The company has less presence globally specially emerging economies

Opportunities:

* Offer coupons with discount and better shopping experience

* Partnership with other companies automotive, tax and food services

* Capitalize on ecommerce

Threats:

* Expansion from competitors is a major threat

* Slow economy Impacting profitability

* Distribution and cost issues with vendors

GAP ANALYSIS:

After careful evaluation of J. C. Penney I have found several gaps one being the reduction in workforce which has impacted their customer service immensely. They have reduced their operations and corporate staff as well. In addition this combined with early retirement has contributed a considerable amount of turnover of high level employees with knowledge and skills impacting there productivity and efficiency.
