Elements of the project plan that depend on the WBS
There are several elements of a project plan that depend of the Work Breakdown Schedule. A WBS is a very critical tool in project planning and management.
The first element of project plans that depend in the WBS is the deliverables. A WBS brakes deliverables into simple activities and tasks. The breaking down of complex activities into simple tasks makes it easier for the project manager to oversee the implementation of the project task. The tasks must be independent and measurable a well as have definite limits. Every project plan has to plan for its tasks (Webb, 2000).
Roles and responsibilities is yet another element of project plans that depends on WBS. It is important for the project management team to assign responsibilities to specific individuals. With a WBS, it is easy for the project planner to assign the responsibilities for the accomplishment of specific individual tasks. Attending to this task eventually leads to attending to the scope of the project within the allocated time and within the budgetary allocations.
Scheduling also depends of a WBS. Scheduling is important for organising a project plans activities. No tool is more suitable for planning or scheduling activities than a WBS. A WBS helps in tracking the accomplishment of the project schedule since it properly issues limits that a project manager can use to determine the progress (Webb, 2000). Since a WBS makes progress measurable, it is even possible for project managers to determine the percentage progress of each task periodically.
Finally, a WBS supports a project plan through facilitation of the definition of the project scope. A project plan must perfectly define the project scope during the planning phase. This ought to ensure that the project accomplishes its scope without engaging in extra work....
