Checkpoint: Modern Challenges in Immigration
The United States government should not favor certain kinds of immigrants
that want to come to this country. It would be seen as discrimination and totally
unfair, that is not what this country is all about. People who have a skill or those
which do not have a skill still do contribute to this economy. People want to come
to this country because it is the land of opportunity, and this opportunity will help
them to start all over again. Meaning that the immigrants that want to come here,
hope to make a better life for their families. Whereas in their native countries life
was not so good, and they needed to leave.
I also believe why a wealthy person would want to come to the United
States and be a citizen if everything was good for them in their own country. I feel
there should be no illegal immigrants. If people really want to come to this
country, come here legally. Many people, from decades before have done it no
matter how hard it was. Maybe by going through the difficult task to enter the
United States such as fingerprinting and background checks and all the fees
associated with entering this country legally. I feel it shows that they are
determined to make this their home and become a good responsible citizen, and
be welcomed into our country.
There shouldn’t be favoritism; allowing only lets say the Cubans, who fill
boats which are packed with people to come here illegally and once they reach
the shores of the United States and step foot on our soil. These people are
automatically granted to stay here under the “wet feet, dry feet policy.” There are
so many other people from different countries that come into the United States
illegally and are deported back to their countries if caught. What makes it so easy
for the Cubans to just touch our soil to set them free? That...
