Child proofing your Home

Before your child begins to crawl, you need to get a start on proofing your home. First off, you will need to get down on the floor and be able to see every thing that the child would see at his/her level. You could possibly see the potential dangers in every room of your home. Lets start with the living areas, such as the living room, the kitchen, the bathroom and rest of the home. In the living room, you would want to make sure the carpets are non-slip, and that there are no loose tiles or linoleum. Look around to see if you can spot the electrical cords, that are visible and are hanging. Be sure to tie up the cords and hide them. The outlets need to have a protective cover on them, so that the child would not stick his/her finger or an object into it. Make sure that none of the furniture is wobbly or unbalance, so that when the child pulls on it, it won’t fall on them. Try to clear up all the surfaces from dangerous items. Be able to store all the small items in drawers or high up, out of the childs’ reach. For instance, the keys, coins, and other small items are potential choking hazards. Be sure not to leave your purse laying around, there are things in it that can be dangerous for the child. Need to keep those type of items out of reach of the child. Have a toy box set up in the living room, away from any area that could be dangerous to the child. Now we will go into the kitchen area, you need to keep all cabinet doors and drawers secured with the locking mechanisms. Be able to store hazardous items, such as cleaning supplies, in another location up high, out of the childs reach. Any magnets on the refrigerator should be removed or out of reach. Make sure all the appliances doors are closed and secure. The bathroom is next, be sure to keep all shampoos, soaps and other harmful items out of childs reach.
