Introduction

Haworth is a leading global company in the manufacturing of contract furniture and workspace interiors. The employees at Haworth have helped to grow the company in each department. Specifically, the IT (Information Technology) department ensures that every technological piece of equipment is functioning at its best on a global level. This department is responsible for the functionality of every computer and its software and hardware. The IT department is not in the front lines when it comes to sales and manufacturing because they are working behind the scenes, so it is not a department that is recognized publicly very often.

I had the opportunity to interview three employees in the IT department at Haworth. My first interviewee is an employee that has been there over 10 years. He is a loyal employee that feels he has been passed over on promotions. The second interviewee is a new employee that began his career at Haworth as an intern. He is optimistic about his future at Haworth and is looking to possible future advancement with the company. My third interviewee has been at Haworth for a long time. (He did not disclose the amount of time.) He is also a loyal employee. He has, in the past, also been passed up for promotions but does not complain. He is simply just content to be where he is and looking forward to retirement.

I found all three interviewees to be very interesting and found that all were the same, yet different, about their personal views regarding Haworth. My concern with these employees is that their loyalty, hard work, and commitment have not been enough to promote them within the company. The young employee is optimistic, but I fear that his future will be the same as the other two older employees. Promotions, rewards, and advancement in the company are what keep these employees from performing at their best level. They do the work that is required and are left without any job satisfaction....
