Assignment 1: Literature Review

2-3 pages (double spaced), Plus Reference List

Due Week 17 (April 24)

In this assignment, you will locate four sources, and write a short literature review. The literature review will form the foundation for the other assignments and the final draft of the paper due at the end of the course. You should therefore make sure that you choose a topic that is interesting enough to you!

1. Research - Using the techniques discussed in class, locate at least four articles relating to topics assigned by your Tutor. You can pick more than four articles for this assignment if you wish, however we strongly encourage you to stick to four. Using more may prevent you from reviewing each source sufficiently.

* All of these sources should be acquired through the University Library (physically or electronically).

* Access at least two different UL databases (e.g., JSTOR, ABI/INFORM, Business Source Premier) to find articles

* Use at least two different types of sources (e.g., articles, books, other)

* At least one source must be an academic journal. A good place to find examples of this is the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) Journals List (http://www.erim.eur.nl/ERIM/About/EJL#axzz1p6E5VJlx)

2. Literature Review - Write a Literature Review based on your gathered sources. [2 - 3 pages; 800 – 1200 words.] Your job is present the overall finding on the topic, critically evaluate your sources, and offer your own reactions/critiques/reflections on the source/topic.

* Provide a short overview of the most important information each source brings to your question.

* Critically evaluate each source – indicate its quality and how that may impact its claims.

* Contextualize your findings – show how the different sources, and their evaluations, fit inside the relevant context of your question. Discuss any agreements/disagreements and offer your own reactions and...
