Understanding poverty

Dr. Whitten

October 4th 2013

Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world. (Mandela, 2007) “Educations is the most powerful way to stop poverty in its track. Children living in poverty have a higher number of absenteeism or leave school all together because they are more likely to have to work or care for family members.” This rate of being absent hurts kids more than they will ever see. Being absent from school means that they will miss core things that they need to ever do well in high school or college. These are the things that every other thing is based off of. “Dropout rates of 16 to 24-year-old students who come from low income families are seven times more likely to drop out than those from families with higher incomes.
