An inefficient and poorly functioning supply chain can negatively impact every aspect of an organization. The advances of technology uses for supply chain management have greatly improved the timely delivery of the goods to the customer. Businesses can now track packages from start to delivery, see where their fleet of trucks is by using Global Positioning Services (GPS), rFID, and place orders for more goods in real time. This is called Demand Planning and is widely used in today’s business world. Supply chain management keeps track of inventory and helps in planning to meet the needs of the customer. This impacts the finances and is an advantage for businesses. Once the Supply Chain is streamlined and is operating flawlessly the business will be able to take advantage of this and the customers will also benefit. Demand Planning is the answer since it is based on customer demand for the goods and services provided by the business, this also includes globalization, competition, pricing, outsourcing and product life cycles. Compliance to Federal Regulations must be met for the items sold to the consumers.

As global trade relationships continue to change, companies need to make sure that their supply chain systems are working at their best to make sure of competitiveness in the future. A supply chain system that provides the perfect balance between cost and service just years ago is not quite sure that the ideal is for today’s solution. With the cost of logistics on the rise and the cost dynamics constantly changing, companies need to assess their optimal supply chain strategy more frequently.
