Central Problem:
➢ How can they improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the College of Commerce?
Objectives:
• To determine an organizational structure that could improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the College
• To increase number of enrollees.
• To reduce the inessential components of the organization
• To eliminate poor interrelationship among the departments
• To reduce expenses
Alternative Courses of Action:
➢ Accept the proposed reorganization
➢ Disregard the proposal
➢ Lower the number of lecturers (part-timer)
➢ Convince the department heads to merge and determine who they want to merge with.
Evaluation of ACAs:
1. Accept the proposed reorganization
• Advantages:
o Faculty and staff can exchange their ideas with each other
o It can save up to 65000 pesos per year
• Disadvantages:
o Create a loss of academic identity in the departments.
o Arousing of conflicting ideas between merged department heads
o Interaction between personnel will become impersonal
o Increase the size of each departments
2. Disregard the proposal
• Advantages:
o Ability to respond to the needs of the students
o Easy supervision
o No conflict may arise between department heads
o Easy to mobilize specialized skills
• Disadvantage:
o May result in overspecialization
o Difficulty in coordination
3. Lower the number of lecturers
• Advantages:
o There can be a room for more full-time faculty
o Critics argue that increased use of part-time faculty harms full-time faculty by taking away full-time positions and extra pay for course overloads
