Some individuals who are engaged in international business transactions have reported a cultural component to ethics. Let’s say you are working on opening a branch of a food distribution operation in a foreign country, and a local official suggests that a little cash would help your company yet started.
Research international business and ethical standards, and answer the following questions:
•In what ways can culture affect ethical standards and shape business behavior?
Let’s start off with what does ethics, morals, and values mean. Ethics refer to a code of conduct for an individual or a group. Morals are habits that people develop according to their cultural development. Values are what an individual deems as important, according to (M.U.S.E. 2013). To start off each individual is born and raised by a cultural setting by the way they are brought up, by their schools, religion, and our social setting determines a person’s culture and behavior. Therefore, high ethical standards require both businesses and individuals to conform to sound moral principles. Business ethics can compromise the principles and standards that can guide behavior in the world business. I would have to argue that culture does indeed affect ethical standards and shape business behavior. Certain ethical standards are held up as good business practices in American businesses. If you plan on doing business with people of other cultures, than you must understand that their cultures will affect their perceptions of what is ethical. The problem is that the concept “good business behavior” is not universal, but depends on culture, (Kalyani 1999-2014). Therefore, to do good international business, it is vital to be aware of the influence of cultures upon ethical standards in business.
