This All Began With A Click
I can still remember, the browser loading in the background, as I prepared myself for the task at hand, the exploration of my own Blackboard window into the world of all that is English and literature. I had used Blackboard years before, when I was last at College of the Desert and not much had changed. Accessing my homepage and course load, I quickly found what I was looking for: M/W 7:10am, English 1A. I pulled my mouse icon over and click, my journey began.
I was greeted by the first and only announcement with bright, bold words hanging above it, “Welcome to English”. Upon reading the announcement, I grew confident in the choice I made on Monday morning, particularly the title of which Heather Benes gave herself, “Teacher of language and words”. I repeated the words to myself, as my mind came into clarity. That’s what I’ve been looking for, to grow and form knowledge and understanding of the use of language and more expressively words. I was in the right place.
My next step was to expand what I knew about the course by opening the About English 1A page. Reading the course facts allowed me to understand what the goals and expectations would be throughout the semester. Also, after thinking it though, I internalized the necessity for respect and an open, willing mind when learning new material and expanding understanding throughout this course and in every aspect of my education. I spent some time on this page thinking about what I envisioned for the next few months, but was brought back to the present with a glance at the following unexplored tabs.
My expedition continued in a somewhat linear route, one page after another. Perusing lightly the Assignments, My Grades and Tools pages, making mental notes for future reference and use, I clicked on Helpful Documents.
