Club IT is a premier social club built on a dream and the pure passion for music of its owner’s Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada. These two musician’s and Business Administration graduates wanted to create high excitement and guaranteed fun when developing Club IT. With a mission of offering live music, DJ’s, and ample dance space – this is an atmosphere that meets the varied refreshment tastes of the 20-something’s looking for a good time.

Resources and Roles

Club IT’s information resources are inclusive of intranet access for employees to include; personal information, forms, manuals, directory, ordering, sales, and budget. Club IT’s IT department consists of Ruben and Lisa. However, Ruben and Lisa realize their information management is lagging so amidst the hustle of remodeling the Club they have brought on an intern, Crystal Tate. Crystal’s job is to fully analyze the information needs of Club IT through developing a competitive advantage. Crystal, knowing that an IT department is best set on structured concepts such as service management, development, and operations, sets out to prove that her position as intern is worth the extra expenditure on Ruben and Lisa’s part.

Strategies

A competitive advantage is crucial in a successful business. Crystal recognizes that Club IT is part of huge night life market. A number of strategies are present in securing a competitive advantage, as listed under the Porter’s Competitive Forces Model, such as: cost leadership, differentiation, innovation, operational effectiveness, and customer orientation. Crystal must note the most immanent strategy to allow Club IT to diversify and stand out above competitors. Nightclubs are not a monopoly so the strategy that will be analyzed is differentiation.
