The problem I choose to identify in my day-to-day life that I would like to solve by doing a better job at is time management. After close evaluation of my schedule over the past few months, I feel that my life is slowly spinning out of control with everything that I am doing and are obligated to do. From work to school work and everything in between, which include spending time with and for my family, household duties and doctor’s appointments, I feel as though there is not enough time in a day to do everything that I need to do. Time management is much needed.

Brian Marshall (2000) contends that some people take time for granted. Time, says Marshall (2000), is defined by Webster’s New World College Dictionary (Fourth Ed.) as the period between two events or during which something exists, happens or acts, measured or measurable interval. The dimension of time is comprised of an enormous range. Common time spans range from the shortest (attosecond - one quintillionth of a second) to the longest (millennium - one thousand years.) The freedictionary website (n.d.) gave a list of time idioms that seems appropriate for me at the present time, such as against time – sometimes I feel like I am running against time, in time – assignments are due at 3:00 a.m. my time and I find myself hitting the send button at 2:59 a.m., on time – I work extremely hard to get assignments in on time, time on (one's) hands – I miss having down time for the family.

To be an effective person, personal time management skills are skills that are essential. Susan Ward (n.d.) gives a definition of time management as the development of tools and procedures that enhance productivity and efficiency.
