The Memo Every Woman Keeps In Her Desk

Summary:

Liz Ames works in the market development department at Vision Software. Liz has a close male friend who she can trust, talk to, and share thoughts. Liz Ames was facing a dilemma at work in which she has come up against an issue that is considered a common problem in business today: gender bias or sexism. She wrote a memo addressing the sexism issue and she was debating whether to send this memo to the CEO or not. She decided to meet up with her male friend to discuss this issue with him and get his advice whether to send the message to John Clark, Vision’s CEO, or not. Liz believes that this memo is so important to avoid sexism later on in the company and find solution for any future gender bias. Liz was afraid of the consequences if the CEO didn’t believe her and as a result he will not take the memo seriously. Liz’s male friend decided to read this memo and get back to her for his advice.

Problem statement:

Liz addressed this issue as a serious business issue and not just a human resource issue. Liz feels that she is compelled to communicate her frustration to the CEO. She was skeptical about the bad consequences she is going to face. She believed that this issue was a major cause that is stopping the company from going further in being successful. Also, the problem arose when her friend was considering about his advice and didn’t tell her right on the spot to send the memo and speak up her thoughts.

Analysis and Solution:

This article opened my eye on a major dilemma that one could face at work. I think this article is important to read because it flashes the light on the sexism issue. After analysing this article and the problem statement, I think from my own perspective that Liz should brings up this issue to the CEO without any hesitation.
