Freedom Freedom is important because without free will and freedom of expression
we become a society of people living just to get by instead of a society living to be happy. The United States of America was founded because a group of peopleʼs unwillingness to be controlled by an unfair government, which is always the first argument against a government with to much control. The government is here to protect the people and to create guidelines as to how society should be run, not to force society to do what it wants hence Abraham Lincoln stating, “A government of the people, by the people, for the people...”
Throughout time the government has tried to control the masses through different methods from over taxation to disallowing certain members of society to vote to causing mass hysteria through the media. None of these methods have worked and all have eventually led to some kind of backlash by the people being oppressed or duped by these unfair practices. Barack Obama would have never been elected to office had the people of this country not been completely fed up with George Bushʼs methods of trying to keep control by creating such a high level of paranoia throughout our country that when the people finally had enough, THEY HAD REALLY HAD ENOUGH!
The government should set the guidelines as to how people should treat each other but not to try to control peopleʼs free will. The government is also needed to set guidelines in regard to big business so we do not have another situation like we did before with companies abusing the system. Without some
form of government regulation we would live in an anarchy ruled by whomever had the most power, which is ironic because in a way that is how the world is run anyway. The United States of America is the most powerful country in the world and we rule the rest of the world by enforcing our will on others to get what we want whether it be oil, the best shipping routes, or imposing our political views on others.
