BODY OF PAPER 1 or 2 Pages

Case 1-1 XXX

This is where your paper will begin. All papers begin with an introductory paragraph so that you can give an overview of the topic to the reader. Don’t skip lines between paragraphs or hit enter after each of your lines. Word will do this for you. Be sure to indent your first line of each paragraph a ½ inch (use the Tab key). There shouldn’t be any information in the rest of your paragraphs that isn’t mentioned in your introduction here. Essays should also include a thesis statement so your thoughts are organized and your reader is not confused.

After your introduction, you will need body paragraphs to support your topic. The number of body paragraphs you have will depend on the amount of information you have to cover. Be sure to check the minimum length of the assignment to ensure you have met the minimum requirement. Some assignments may also require you to cite outside sources. When citing in APA Style, an in-text citation should be used. For example, “This is what a direct quote looks like” (Jones, 2013, p. 1). However, if a source is not being directly quoted, a page number is not required (Jones, 2013).

If you want to directly quote 40 words or more from one source, the format is slightly different:

Long quotes are indented ½ inch from the margin and quotation marks are NOT used. The fact that the quote is being indented is the indicator that it is a quote and not part of your paper. Remember, only quotes that are 40 words are more need to be quoted this way. Note that the punctuation mark goes BEFORE the citation for a long quote like this. (Jones, 2013)

If you wish to continue your paragraph following your quote, simply start your next line at the margin and continue on normally.
