CASE DESCRIPTION

The Made-In-Montreal Shoe Company is a small business based in Montreal. The company consists of 12 managers and 38 production workers for a total of 50 employees. The company produces rock climbing shoes which are sold to stores across the continent. It does everything from design to manufacturing to the marketing of the shoes.

The M-I-M Shoe Company specializes in producing the highest quality climbing shoes. The materials are carefully selected and imported from foreign countries, and each shoe is hand-made in the Montreal factory. An individual signature by the quality inspector makes each pair of rock climbing shoes unique in the world.

The enterprise was thought up by two young amateur rock climbers who were dissatisfied with the climbing shoes currently on the market. The two climbers paired with another friend who had experience designing shoes. Their adventures started in 2003 when the M-I-M Shoe Company was finally launched and their first pair of shoes was created. It operates in the private sector and each of the three founders owns a third of the business as a result of their partnership.

As of today, one of the co-founders is the chief executive officer, one is the chief financial officer and the original designer is still in charge of the designing the rock climbing shoes. The designer is also responsible for everything else that is related to their creation, such as materials and packaging. Below them is a team small team of middle managers, production supervisors, and accountants.

Ever since its creation in 2003, the company has been in a period of economic growth. Despite the current economic situation, people are still buying M-I-M’s products even though they are not considered an essential consumer good. One might say that people need the shoes in order to get through this economic downturn...
