In every company there always a figure that is needed in order to take a responsibility of the company’s decision. Robins et al. (2012) has describe a manager as someone who coordinates and overseas the work of people so that organisational goals can be accomplished. Moreover, to perform the duties every manager need certain skills such as technical skills,human skills and conceptual skills. The relative importance of these skills varied according to the manager’s level within the organisation. “Conceptual skills are needed by all managers at all levels, but these skills become more important in top management positions. The reason for this is that upper-level managers often deal with abstract ideas,where lower –level managers normally spend more time dealing with observable objects and processes.” (Kartz, 2012, p.17). Upper-level management is the ultimate source of authority and it manages goals and policies for an enterprise. It devotes more time on planning and coordinating functions. (“Levels of management”, 2012) The purpose of this essay is to identify and discuss the importance of conceptual skills that managers are required to demonstrate. The analysis indicates that Joice has done several things that proved that he has the conceptual skills such as when he made a decision in expanded its discount airline that save company budgets and prove the importance of conceptual skills in order to maintain the continuity of the company.

Kartz (2012) state that conceptual skills is the ability to think and to conceptualize about abstract and complex situations. It can be proved with several action such as creatively thinking, analyzing complex situation, understanding issues and problem solving. To survive in a tough competition among airlines, Qantas must continue to make changes. On the domestic scene to face Qantas has to deal with Virgin Blue and Tiger airways. Qantas’s ability to change will be important if the company want to remain successful in the future....
