Tourism is an industry that involves the temporal movement of people from their homes, usually overnight or for more days to various destinations of attractions mainly for the purpose of adventure, leisure and above all enjoyment in an environment different from one he or she is used to.

The person involved in movement is known as a tourist. Tourism can be subdivided into domestic and international. The places of interest can be old historical sites, wildlife and nature parks.

Culture is the total range of activities and ideas in a particular society with shared traditions which are transmitted and reinforced by its members. Therefore culture takes a form of ideological (ideas involved in society myths and religions), sociological (the way people in society relate, morals, values and dressing) Linguistic (various dialects spoken by different people) and technological (various architectural structures associated with different people and societies) patterns of experience to provide ways of seeing and thinking about the world hence each culture equips its members with ground rules, value orientations and necessary belief systems through which social reality is constructed. Culture contributes to a person's sense of identity.

In summation, it is a particular civilization associated with a particular distinctive society.

Tourism and culture are linked and therefore inseparable for they are intertwined and operate like a hand and glove. Having identified culture in various forms (sociological, ideological, linguistic and technological) which forms cultural heritage, this therefore means that monuments which claim their origin can link with the past as a result of their inimitability. Therefore one link has been established between culture and tourism since these ancient architectural structures are a form of culture attracting tourist to visit areas such as Great Zimbabwe.
