Introduction/Background
Operations Management explores organizations strategies and practices for: distributing goods and providing services. As consumers, we require varying goods - automobiles, airplanes, computers and houses and services such as medicals hospitals, and banks (Terry Hill 2005). It is an Operations managers’ responsibility to ensure the production and distribution goods and services in the most efficient and effective manner. In essence operations management can be considered the central activity in organization.
The importance of operations management has increased dramatically in recent years. Significant competition, shorter product and service life cycles, better educated and quality-conscious consumers, and the capabilities of new technology have placed pressures on the operations function to improve productivity while providing a broader array of high-quality products and services. The importance of OM have been embedded and emphasized in Coreas Hazells Inc. Mission statement. The MS state that CHI is aimed at being the customers’ first choice in all our areas of business by providing them with a selective line of quality products and services, delivered by a highly motivated, trained and professional staff working together to ensure continued growth, whilst ensuring a maximum return on investment.
CHI’s Business strategy provides the required framework for the organization’s goals to be achieved. Its strategy is the organization’s long-range game plan. The strategic consideration is one that’s flexibly. Flexibility is defined as an ability to develop a capability for change. There are many ways to respond to the needs for flexibility.
