Recruiting at KIA

SUMMARY:

Kia Motors America a subsidiary of a South Korean corporation for producing approximately 300,000 vehicles annually added tons of equipment at its West Point, Georgia, plant. For that it offered a large number of jobs. Kia uses different means for recruiting, including; visiting colleges and churches, appearing on radio and television shows and above all along with a Georgia Department of Labor agency established an online-only application process. For those persons without home-based Internet, it made computers available at a local technical college, libraries, and other locations. As a result More than 40,000 individuals applied for the multiple jobs in a limited time frame for applications.

It used the recruiting software to sort applicants into electronic “buckets,” divided by work experiences and education and established an eight-step process to let applicants obtain a realistic job preview. This system made hiring and selection process faster and more efficient and within 6 months Kia hired more than 500 new employees and 1200 in another 6 months and so on.

QUESTIONS

1. Describe how employing a large number of new workers require strategic recruiting planning and operational efforts, and discuss what aspects might be different in smaller firms.

Answer: Employing a large number of new workers means a large number of resources are required for recruitment. The different means of promoting the vacancies must be done to inform more people about it. The people will be attracted more if the company had a good “Brand Name” in the market and even more when a variety of jobs is offered. Mostly the bigger companies offer this variety.
