The key points that were discussed in this week’s readings really had to do with proper classroom management and how to reach that goal. The book discussed many different scenarios and important factors that need to be implemented into a classroom in order to have a respectful and appropriate level of classroom management to happen. The most important factor to take into consideration at first is creating a classroom setting that is conductive and inviting for learning to take place. The ways that desks are placed into a classroom should be carefully considered and thought about as this can have a major impact on what and how a child will learn and comprehend content being delivered. Of course seating arrangements and furniture can always be moved and rearranged as needed, but when a classroom is being set up many different factors need to be thought about and the important content needs to be visible to all students while the distractibility needs to be kept to a minimum. Another really important factor to work on is establishing and properly maintaining a respectful and caring relationship with boundaries with each and every individual student. The children need to feel that they are important and that no matter where they came from or where they are going they do matter to you as their instructor and you personally have interest in their successes and failures. It is imperative that starting on the first day of school that the guidelines and expectations are firmly but gently planted, along with what the consequences will be if the rules are broken. This is huge to building a relationship with students and provides a healthy foundation of what is expected of them and if they choose to steer off path they know and are already aware of what the consequences will be.
