Employment Regulations Paper

Every company must follow a set of regulations when it comes to hiring new employees or maintaining current employees. There are several different regulations that are required by state and each state has their specific regulations. Along with state regulations employers must follow federal regulations. These regulations are the same for every company. This paper will discuss the federal employment regulations as well as the regulations for the State of Montana. This paper will also analyze a legislation regarding employment regulations and how the legislation relates to employers.

State Regulations

Some of the state regulations for employment in Montana include wages and salary and child labor laws. In Montana “the Wage and Hour Unit enforces provisions of the Montana Wage Payment Act, minimum wage and overtime law and the State Child Labor Standards Act” (McCormack, 2009, p.1). This unit processes claims from employees that have not received payment for work they have done for a company. They are also responsible for keeping employees and employers up to date on employee rights and helping those employees protect their rights. The Wage and Hour Unit assists employees in areas such as “minimum wage, overtime, vacation pay, commissions, earned bonuses, etc” (McCormack, 2009, p.1). After this unit has done all it can do for the employees, the collective bargaining unit steps in and takes the employee a step further. The collective bargaining unit helps employees with “processing unfair labor practice complaints and conducts matters relating to representation questions for public employees” (McCormack, 2009, p.1).
