CHAPTER 1

Why Study Human Resource Management?

HRM is important to learn how to staff the organization, design jobs and teams, develop skillful employees, identifying approaches for improving their performance, and rewarding employee success. To work with people effectively, we have to understand human behavior, and we have to be knowledgeable about the various system and practices available to help us build skilled and motivated workforce. At the same time , we have to be aware of economic, technological, social and legal issues that either facilitate or constrain our efforts to achieve organizational goals.

HRM: is the process of managing human talent to achieve an organization’s objectives.

Human Resources Management challenges:

1)Globalization: is the trend toward opening up foreign markets to international trade and investments. Basically in order to grow companies are seeking business opportunities in global markets.

Corporate Social Responsibility is the responsibility of the firm to act in the best interest of people affected by its activities. This means that is if BMW is producing cars in Mexico the Mangers have to adapt their jobs, increase job training translate materials in different languages and take decisions based on different cultures than usually.

2) Influences of Technology on HRM:

The most central use of technology in HRM is an organization’s HRIS human resources information system that is a computerized system that provides current and accurate data for purposes of control and decision making.

It can be a potent weapon for lowering administrative costs, increasing productivity and speeding up responses times, and improving decision making and customer service. Basically is a system that pays employees keeps employees record, recruits, trains, employee and management self service.
